Welcome to Dykehead Amateurs website. We are a group of around twenty five flautists and percussionists based in Shotts, North Lanarkshire. The Band is well known throughout Central Scotland for the various concerts, church events, children's gala days and SAFA Championships we undertake each year.
The main objectives of the Band are to promote good music and to share that with the community through our playing. We also have a strong desire to enhance the harmony within the membership and to cement friendships across the banding community. Having strived to achieve these aims since 1929, we look forward to continuing for many years to come.
The Band welcomes invitations and will consider any booking. We play a wide range of music from marches and easy listening through to more adventurous classical overtures and symphonies. To achieve the best possible sound the Band play a selection of instruments from piccolo to contrabass flute, 3 octaves apart, along with a selection of percussion items that include drum, bass drum, timpani, cymbals, triangle, xylophone, and many more.
The Band meets weekly in the Band Hall, Rosehall Road, Shotts. Practices are on a Monday evening from 7pm until 9pm. There is also a learners class for anyone wishing to learn the flute or percussion with classes held on Mondays and Thursdays. Both classes are taught by our experienced players with some having over 40 years playing experience. Tuition, instruments and uniforms are provided free of charge and there are no joining fees or dues to pay.
Anyone wishing to join the band should contact a band member or email
